German Fiddola

German Fiddola

A rare instrument. Possibly a child’s viola from the lat 1800’s, this instrument is the size of a full size violin but with widely set f holes. The original neck was screwed on and was very thin- thinner than would be comfortable for any violin player. The perfect solution for this unusual instrument was to convert it to a 5 string violin. With a new neck carved in my shop on the Sunshine Coast, this old instrument has a new life as a hybrid old-new fiddola. A beautiful rich brown varnish with gold ground. Two piece back with tight flame. Set up with Obligato strings, 3 tree Despiau bridge and Wittner 5-string tailpiece. SOLD
