Neck Graft and a Crazy Rehair

Neck Graft and a Crazy Rehair

April 2017

I started a neck graft this month. The scroll is an important part of the violin. Some consider it the signature of the maker. If there is major damage to the neck and or other structural issues with the set up, sometimes a new neck is required. We don’t just carve a new scroll and new neck. Instead, a the original scroll is grafted onto a new neck. It’s a complex process. It’ll be a bit slow since I’ve got lots of little repairs on the go. Here’s the beginning. Stay tuned for updates on progress.

I also had a crazy rehair this month. A split teal-purple vertical rehair for Serena Eades of Dehli to Dublin. Challenging and fun.
