Winter 2023: Another Wallace Amati
One of my favourite instruments is my Wallace Alard inspired Amati. It is a full size violin, but I’ve made some adjustments to make the playing length a little shorter so it feels really comfortable for smaller hands. The original Alard Amati is 350mm long, which is 5mm shorter than the standard. I kept the top of the violin following the dimensions of the original, but I stretched the bottom bout. So this violin is 355mm long. It gives a really elegant, slender look to the violin and it also means there is a bigger air volume, but easy to play. I’ve made many of these models and really love the feel and the look.
