Description

The Northern Sun fiddola is a 5-string violin for a fiddler or classical player looking for more versatility. The fiddola is the size of a 4/4 violin with a wider fingerboard.

I receive the Northern Sun violins “in the white”, which means unvarnished and not set up. I open up the pegbox and fit it with 5 pegs and fit the neck with a wider fingerboard. I varnish it (and can do a custom varnish by request).

I outfit it with a Wittner 5-string fine tuning tailpiece and ebony fittings, with a three tree Despiau bridge. Strings vary, but are often Obligato or Infeld Reds.

If you prefer fine-tuning pegs, I install Wittner fine tuning pegs and a classic ebony tailpiece with just E strings adjustor. There is a $200 additional fee, bringing the cost to $3000 (plus tax).
